Mionix Saiph 3200DPI Mouse

Mionix have just released their 3200 DPI SAIPH beast. High quality and great precision are what makes this mouse roar!

At first glance

The clean crisp packaging is to the point and isnt complicated or fancy in anyway. There aren't any annoying wire ties or anything like that to stop the eager gamer opening their new toy.

The mouse itself is a nice size, having hands on the larger side, its hard to find a mouse that actually fits nicely and feels "right" to game with. The rubber thumb grip i especially like because sweaty palms can cause mice to become like soap in tight situations and gun battles, however this mouse just destroys the idea of losing control from the second you grasp it.

Tech spec

- 3200 DPI Laser for super duper accuracy
- 5 programable buttons
- 7 step in-game DPI adjustment
- Teflon feet for super smoothness
- Plug n play technology
- Modular weight system

My thoughts

Being an FPS gamer myself, I've always sought after a mouse that feels comfortable. It's not always about the functions of a mouse that make it a good one. Mionix have really pulled this one out of the bag, with function and feel wrapped up into one awesome little package, you couldnt really ask for anything more from them. I like lights...and this mouse has them!! each DPI change makes the mouse scroll change colour, how awesome is that? All you have to do is remember which colour you like playing with if someone changes your DPI!

Combined with the Mionix Alioth 320 Cloth Mousemat, you are confidently unstoppable when it comes to destroying your oponents. I tried this mouse over a period of two days, and i can assure you it rocks.

Other Mice

The Saiph looks and feels alot like the Roccat Kone yet I feel the slightly more curvey nature and the added rubber grips for your thumb puts this mouse one step ahead of its blue tiger nemesis. If groovey colours and pretty software allowing you to change every detail of your mouse do it for you then you need the Kone. If you want to save a few quid game for longer sessions and just get on with it I'd go with the Saiph.

Now the Saiph 3200 does have a smaller brother the Saiph 1800. All in all it's the same design but with less DPI. The grip is also slightly different as the rubber thumb area is removed, the side thumb buttons are 2 seperate units (rather than the 3200 1 long pivetted button) and the DPI changing buttons are slightly different.

Conclusion

Retailing for between £42 and £50 this isn't a cheap piece of kit but what is these days. You could go for a Razer Lachesis with its 4000DPI for between £35 and £45 but it's really not suited for the "claw" type and larger handed type gamers you like large mice. The Kone goes for around the £45 also although I have seen it at £39 so it all really comes down to what company you want to part cash with.

The Mionix Saiph does everything it says on the tin (Ed. well box) and is a very nice non-intrusive mouse to play with. There are mice for the same money with fancier addons and high tech specs though so I think I will award the Saiph 3200 a worthy GTW Silver Mouse Award.

Was able to test the mouse for a bit also and with the mousepad, precession is achieved to the utmost of perfection :)
